Surah Al-Ikhlaas
Tafseer of Surah 112 - Al-Ikhlas - Nouman Ali Khanبِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
-- > When there is a conflict that goes on for a long time, people forget what they are fighting about
What was the agenda of the conflict? Continuing and fulfilling the legacy of Ibrahim.a – Ikhlaas
-- > Relationship Surah Kafiroon, Surah Ikhlas : two central surahs with two offshoots, corollary surahs (continuation)
-- > Nicknames: Al muqashkish- that which removes diseases (Surah kafiroon and Surah Ikhlas)
Surah Ikhlas- Suratut tafreed-individual,
Surah tu tajreed-temoves all misconceptions about Allah,
Surah tu tauheed- the one that unifies the attributes of Allah,
Surah tu ma’rifah- to know someone,
Surah tu samad- only place in Quran where the word is used,
Surah tu Asas- essence/core of the mission of messenger.s,
Surah tu noor- Surah of light, gives light to heart, light of the Quran
-- > Makki Surah (majority opinion)
-- > narrated Aisha.r : he was on a military expedition, at the end of every rakah- Surah Ikhlas,
“This Surah is the proper attributing of Ar Rahman, so I love reciting this Surah”
Messenger.s, “Allah himself loves him”
-- > narration by Anas.r : man from the Ansar, mosque in Quba, reciting it in the beginning,
“So, why do you commit yourself in every single rakah to this surah”, “I love this Surah” “Your love for it, will get you into Jannah”
-- > narrated Abu tarda : قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ equates one-third of the Quran
-- > اللَّهُ : root origin- Ilah: hamza, laam, ya – focus of worship and obedience; the one to whom people desperately turn
-- > اللَّهُ : original word itself, beyond the Arabic language, universal
1. قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
قُلْ : Say ( command to the messenger.s) ; lesson for messenger.s and its also what he must go out and teach
هُوَ : He, a pronoun is used when somone is already known
universally known greatness of Allah.awj, also answers to the questions : Who is He? Who/What do you worship?
“He is Allah, one”
أَحَدٌ : not anyone at all, absolute negation; one of/the first of the combination of two
-- > only place where أَحَدٌ is used in the positive
-- > unique singular, sole entity to which there is no comparison possible, no competitor possible, no antonym/ opposite, no sort of affiliation, the one for whom there is no second
-- > أَحَدٌ used only for Allah , cannot be compared, unique
-- > goal of life
2. اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
الصَّمَدُ : the one who is enough, the one who they return to whenever they have a need of him, he is the one who is enough for them , and he is the one who fulfils all of their needs and answers all of their questions, the one who they turn to when they are in need;
the one who you turn to in time of need;
when you make someone your goal, they become your samad;
the one who is not in need of anyone else, and no one can over power them;
the one who has no faults in them;
cant be overcome;
incredible and great in his glory;
referred to something that is solid, no holes or emptiness inside; pure one thing;
something absolute and concrete without any flaw;
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ أَحَدٌ
“Allah, the absolute is the only one for which there can be no second”
Allah – ahad; samad
الصَّمَدُ : the one who everyone needs and needs no one himself
3. لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
“He did not give birth, he did not father anyone nor is he fathered himself”
He did not begets, nor was He begotten;
He did not father nor was he fathered
A human being begets a human being;
4. وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
“And he never had any counterpart, anyone that can be compared to Him”
“It is He who never has a counterpart” every other thing in existence will have a كُفُوً
كُفُوً : enemy that is equal to you in battle; when someone is comparable to you, has the same skill, status, ranking; compatible
Tafseer of أَحَدٌ
-- > Allah is unique and one, how gracious and merciful he is, he does not need anyone absolutely at all, he is free from any kind of weakness
-- > Surah An- najaat : this surah rescues from depression, sadness
