Tafseer of Surah Al-Qadr - Nouman Ali KhanTranscripts
“It is no doubt that we have sent it down in Laylatul Qadr(night of power)”
WE: for Allah (power, royalty, formality, power declaration, majestic powers of Allah)
-- > The night was noble, majestic, dignified by Allah even before the Quran came down. And its dignity enhanced after the Quran was revealed.
-- > Laylatul Qadr/ Laylatul Mubarakah (blessed night)
-- > it: (pronoun used for Quran) the audience already understood
the believers were obsessed with the Quran or the disbelievers absolutely hated the Quran
-- > Allah sent it down from Lau-e-mahfooz to the first heaven (Bait-ul-Izzah) in Laylatul Qadr
From there Jibril.a would give it to the messenger on occasion
Laylatul Qadr: (Night of Power)
-- > Qadr means estimation/ determination/ control over everything (what Allah has decreed for the people this year)
-- > Qadr means honor/ dignity/ nobility
Night of appreciation – Allah appreciating the ibadah/worship of his slave
-- > Qadr means to be stuck in something (his budget becomes tight/ constraint)
So many angels descend on the earth that space becomes tight
-- > love of the quran and recognition of Quran lies in every heart. So ‘it’ the pronoun is used. 'It' is revealed
“What in the world could make you realize/ what could possibly give you a clue what Laylatul Qadr is”
مَا : to give you a sense of ‘awe’ to surprise you
-- > part of the question is repeated again (laylatul Qadr) - given special importance
“Lailatul Qadr is better than a 1000 nights”
-- > A life span of good deeds.
-- > The messenger.s was afraid that his Ummah’s members are gonna have short lives. So, Allah has a gift given to him – Laylatul Qadr. So, members of his ummah can catch up and be actually even ahead of all of the other nations.
-- > The barakah of your deeds in this night is unlike any other.
-- > 1000 nights is Arabic expression meant ‘forever’- infinity kind of context.
“Angels and Ar-rooh (Jibril.a) descend in it by the permission of their Lord because of / as a result of every single affair”
-- > Tanazzalu: تَنَزَّلُ : come down at one occurrence (used in this surah for laylatul qadr)
Tatanazzalu: come down at many occurences (Surah hameem sajda)
-- > Angels come down very very fast, secretly and very very quickly
-- > Angels are looking forward desperately to see the believers on the earth. So they seek permission of their lord in this night, so they may say salam to the believers. They seek the permission and the permission is given to them.
-- > Because مِنْ : because every single command from their master
-- > The angels come with all the commands that Allah has issued them for them to be executed from this night to repetition of this night the next year
“Peace it is until the break of Dawn”
-- > this night is entirely peace
-- > Quran, angels, peace descends
