Surah Quraish 


Tafseer of Surah 106 - Quraish - Nouman Ali Khan


بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
1. لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ
“For the convenience of Quraish”
يلَافِI : Ulfa: to have affection, soft eart, to be easy, to have your feelings changed towards someone
Allafa: to cause love to happen between
Ilaf: something happens and you become completely soft immediately
-- > Quraish – so many things Allah has gifted them; softening of hearts
لِ : connected to previous surah; to express amazement- how amazing is Allah’s mercy
-- > Be shocked O Muhammad! at the favors of Allah upon Quraish in giving them the convenience of travelling in the summer and the winter
-- > how can they do such a thing despite the fact that he provides them against hunger and gives them safety against fear
-- > they should be more grateful and their hearts should become soft (economic prosperity- they can concentrate on worshipping Allah)
قُرَيْشٍ : Taqarrush: to gather people from very different distances
Qarsh: huge beast in the ocean; octopus/whale that can destroy the ships but they cant be fought; it eats but it is not eaten, it is overpowers but it is not overpowered

2. إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ
“Their safety / the convenience of the caravans of the summer and the winters”
إِيلَافِهِمْ : emphatically declare; Did you hear/realize what I said
-- > highlighting the caravans of summer and winters
رِحْلَةَ : a travel/ journey when you carry a lot of baggage/merchandise (to sell)
-- > they go whenever they want
-- > they go towards in winter to Yemen and Syria(sham)-summer
-- > winter associated with hunger and summer associated with danger
-- > singular form رِحْلَةَ : travel was continuous

3. فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَٰذَا الْبَيْتِ
“So they should worship the Rabb of this House,”
فَ : then
يَعْبُدُوا : the only way to thank Him is to worship Him

4. الَّذِي أَطْعَمَهُمْ مِنْ جُوعٍ وَآمَنَهُمْ مِنْ خَوْفٍ
“The one who gave them safety against the worst kind of hunger and terrible terrible fear”
Who provided them food in the days of famine and made them secure against fear.
food by the two caravans, two travels of the summer and the winter
مِنْ خَوْفٍ : fear of the people of the elephant; fear of being snatched, kidnapped
