Nouman Ali` Khan - 089 Al-Fajr -
Surah Al Fajr
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
-- > Ancient Arabs used to take oaths to get the attention of listener
-- > Allah takes oaths as an introduction to Surah – call for reflection
============4 Oaths========
1. وَالْفَجْرِ
“By the crack of dawn”
(to rip/tear open completely so that light comes through it)
-- > Beginning of life on the earth
-- > Time of morning in which heart is closest and most fearful before Allah
-- > Reminder of hereafter, importance of prayers, dawn of Islam
(victory of Islam is coming ahead)
2. وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
1. وَالْفَجْرِ
“By the crack of dawn”

-- > Beginning of life on the earth
-- > Time of morning in which heart is closest and most fearful before Allah
-- > Reminder of hereafter, importance of prayers, dawn of Islam

2. وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
“And By Ten Night”
-- > last ten nights of Ramadan
-- > first ten nights of Zul Hijjah
(Allah is teaching us about the inevitable)
Beginning and end of mission of Prophet.s
3. وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
-- > last ten nights of Ramadan
-- > first ten nights of Zul Hijjah
(Allah is teaching us about the inevitable)
Beginning and end of mission of Prophet.s
3. وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
“The odd and the even”
shafa’ : together/pair/even
vitr : singular/odd
-- > By the pair (creation) and by Allah itself
-- > By the odd and even months
-- > Different pairs : sun and moon, land and ocean, sky and earth, male and female
each demands reflection
-- > This life is paired with next life
-- > paired holy cities (Makkah and madinah)
and Bait-ul-muqdas (Jerusalem)
4. وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
shafa’ : together/pair/even
vitr : singular/odd
-- > By the pair (creation) and by Allah itself
-- > By the odd and even months
-- > Different pairs : sun and moon, land and ocean, sky and earth, male and female
each demands reflection
-- > This life is paired with next life
-- > paired holy cities (Makkah and madinah)
and Bait-ul-muqdas (Jerusalem)
4. وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
“And by the night as it strolls away”
yasree : travel or take a stroll at night time

5. هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ
yasree : travel or take a stroll at night time
5. هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ
“Is there in that statement enough of an oath”
Is there a powerful enough oath for people of rock solid intellect for you to stop
Hijr: boulder/ intellect/ enormous restraint/ means of restraint/ keeping you from hurtful things.
If you don’t have intellect you will touch fire
6. أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Is there a powerful enough oath for people of rock solid intellect for you to stop
Hijr: boulder/ intellect/ enormous restraint/ means of restraint/ keeping you from hurtful things.
If you don’t have intellect you will touch fire
6. أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
“Did you not already see/ stare and think deeply
Didn’t you reflect upon how your Lord dealt with nation of Aad ”
Aad- powerful nation; known for building enormous beings and pillars in construction, genetically strong
-- > encouragement to messenger of Allah.s , you think the Quraish is powerful?
-- > threat being issued to the kuffar
Third or fouth nation after Nuh.a “Who is more powerful than us” Their arrogant statement.
7. إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
Didn’t you reflect upon how your Lord dealt with nation of Aad ”
Aad- powerful nation; known for building enormous beings and pillars in construction, genetically strong
-- > encouragement to messenger of Allah.s , you think the Quraish is powerful?
-- > threat being issued to the kuffar
Third or fouth nation after Nuh.a “Who is more powerful than us” Their arrogant statement.
“Nation of Iram that were possessing of pillars”
Iram : early generations of Aad; forefathers of both Aad and Thamud; first man who established their tribe; take rocks and make a sign/ symbol out of them
nation of Iram possessing ability to construct large pillars and beings
8. الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Iram : early generations of Aad; forefathers of both Aad and Thamud; first man who established their tribe; take rocks and make a sign/ symbol out of them
nation of Iram possessing ability to construct large pillars and beings
8. الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
“The likes of which had never been created in all of the cities”
Bilad/balad: used for a city whose borders are defined; fortified cities
9. وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
“ And Thamud- they would crack holes and drill holes into boulders and give final shape in valleys”
Saqra - a large boulder
Jabu – drill a hole right through something/ to crack it open
They had the power to crack rock open- drill a hole right through it.
man power- incredibly strong people.
10. وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
“And Firaun- the possessor of pegs ”
-- > pegs are means by which tents are placed in the ground
-- > he was known for his torture and constructive power
11. الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
“Those were the ones who rebelled in the lands”
tughyan : rebellion- who broke the rules in an act of defiance against the authority
-- > evil consequences are seen in the land
-- > as a result rebelled against each other
12. فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
“As a result, they caused an abundance of huge uprise- increase of corruption”
13. فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
“Allah slammed down/ unleashed/ poured onto them completely,
completely drenched them all at once upon them
your Rabb (talking to messenger.s)
He unleashed this enormous pain, he whipped them really really hard”
Saut: leather whip, doesn’t cause bleeding inside, only hurts the skin
14. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
“There is no doubt Your Lord is sitting and waiting in ambush”
-- > His punishment is on the verge
he is already in position/ waiting in ambush
========Beginning of Journey of Corruption of Human Being ===========
15. فَأَمَّا الْإِنْسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
“As for human being when we thoroughly tested and as a result,
he makes him respectable, worthy of prestige in society, thoroughly and abundantly gives hm things of comfort, blessings, luxuries, amenities,
then he says My Lord has honored (me)”
Ibtila: test someone with worst really rigorous kind of testing
Life is good: very tough test
-- > he feels he is entitled to them, arrogant, does not mention blessings
16. وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
“If and when we thoroughly test him,
he restricts/ constraints the provision for him qadara, (he calculates the exact calculation for him)
he says My Lord has humiliated (me) because of he hates me/ he is angry at me”
17. كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
“None of you honor the orphan”
you don’t respect/ honor the orphan/ helpers- you treat them like royalty
18. وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
“You don’t even encourage at all in any way, shape or form in feeding these who need”
19. وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَمًّا
“And you consume inheritive wealth/ wealth that comes your way without doing any work, pile together and eat it”
-- > turath: free money
-- > You don’t want anyone else to get anything
20. وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
“You love wealth as its filled to the brim; fully loaded”
-- > that’s your real crime
=========== Conclusion towards aqirah=========
21. كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
“When the earth is smashed and pounded and beat (until whatever material it is turns into dust and then you can flatten it out) over and over”
22. وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
“And your Lord will descend and angels will descend rows upon rows upon rows”
23. وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
“On that day then, hell fire will be brought forth /dragged forward,
on that day the human being will remember thoroughly
and what will that reminder do now, what’s the benefit”
Hellfire/ Jahannam: torcher chamber
he will remember everything completely , every last detail
24. يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
“He says over and over again, Oh what destruction has fallen upon me, what have I done to myself
if only I had invested in the future of my life/ sent forward”
-- > This is real life- Akhirah real future
25. فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
“Then on that day, there will not be anyone to torture the way Allah will torture”
26. وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
"And nobody will tie the likes of his tying- nobody is going to bond them like Allah is going to bond them"
========Allah talks to each individual========
27. يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
"Hey calm down and relaxed person; Hey you nafs that has become tranquil and calm; Hey calm and satisfied nafs"
Allah is talking to us in jannah
28. ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً
"Return to your Master, You are pleased with Allah and Allah is pleased with you "
29. فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
"Enter then in the company of my slaves"
30. وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
"And Enter my Jannah"
Allah wants to show what special arrangements he has made for this person
