بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
عَلَقٍ : Alaq: sticky fluid that hangs itself
Isa.a ------------------------- 600 years ----------------------------- Muhammad ur rasulallah.s
-- > Most mufassiroon agree first 5 to 6 ayat are the original first revelation given to Muhammad ur rasulallah.s
-- > he would start seeing true dreams
-- > solitude became beloved to him
Ghaar-e-Hira ( he was alone by himself)
two problem - Who is my creator? How do I solve humanity’s problems?
Allah.awj solved both problems for the messenger.s when He revealed Quran.
-- > Ismail Shaheed.r ( about kinds of Intellect)
1. ‘Ilm ul Hawas’ : Knowledge of the senses ( touch, seeing , smelling – five senses)
2. ‘Ilm ul Aqal’ : Inferred Knowledge ( infer without seeing )
3. ‘Ilm ul Qalb’ : Knowledge of the Heart ( rooh, intuition, sixth sense, higher sense of morality/awareness, Isteqara, true dream, spiritual knowledge )
=====================1st passage ========================
1. اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
-- > “read”
First commandment given in Quran to nabi-al-Ummi
vast majority in that society was not read
In response to that command, muslims became the most educated civilization in history
Higher academics and reading and research is actually rooted in Islamic History
-- > Read the name of your Master
Read what has been revealed to you from Your Master
Read with the help/support of your Lord
Read in the name of your Master
When you recite the quran you say Bismillah hir Rahman ir raheem (way of saying that these are the words of Allah.awj)
-- > Three step journey of Quran:
written as a book ( Lau-e-Mahfooz )
came to messenger.s in the form of words (speech)
book- written document ( written on heart of messenger.s)
(Read from a book that is written) – no errors
-- > This is actually from your Master that you deliver it to the people in the name of your Lord
-- > “Recite! Read! In the name of your Rabb Who created (everything)”
He has full rights over you because he is the one who created you
Allah is the one who created them too
2. خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

2. خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
“(who created everything and especially) he created human
being- Insaan from a dirty fluid”
Aliq: to cling and to hang on
عَلَقٍ : Alaq: clingy piece of flesh
-- > Lessons: 1. Resurrection
2. The idea is you went from something that doesn’t have much purpose/much function to something that has much higher function ( higher purpose of the human being )
3. Means by which Allah humbles the human being
3. اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
Aliq: to cling and to hang on

2. The idea is you went from something that doesn’t have much purpose/much function to something that has much higher function ( higher purpose of the human being )

3. اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
“Read and the Lord is the most noble”
الْأَكْرَمُ : Al- Akram – the most noble
Read again! (Iqra a second time): Encouragement , gift from Allah, act of nobility from your master. Allah.awj is ennobling you (messenger.s)
4. الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
الْأَكْرَمُ : Al- Akram – the most noble
Read again! (Iqra a second time): Encouragement , gift from Allah, act of nobility from your master. Allah.awj is ennobling you (messenger.s)
4. الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
“The one who taught by means of the pen”
-- > the first thing that was created was the pen and he said to it ‘write’
-- > witten knowledge passes on
-- > means by which Allah preserved his revelation
-- > Angels are also writing
-- > idea of the pen being incredibly powerful as a means of preserving as a means of delivering knowledge in the unseen and also in the seen world.
-- > Whoever takes up a path in which he is trying to acquire knowledge, Allah will facilitate for him a road to Jannah.
-- > Qairu kum man ta allamal Quran wa allamahu
The best of you are ones who learn the Quran and teach it.
-- > The Quran will be written (not remain as speech)
5. عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
“ He taught the human being what he could not have known”
Messenger.s is the first student of Quran.
=================2nd Passage=====================
6. كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ
“No not at all, for sure, you better realize, (means of yelling at someone because they were ungrateful to the favors of Allah )
No doubt the human being for sure continues to rebel”
لَيَطْغَىٰ : Tughyan : to rebel, you know what your limits are and you make it a point to cross those limits
-- > Despite the honor that Allah gave him, he rebels
-- > attitude of human being towards revelation
7. أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ
“He sees himself free of needs ( in no need of anyone)”
He assumes that he is free of need
8. إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ
“No doubt it is only to Your Master that the ultimate return will take place”
========Abu Jahal specifically=============
Enemies of prophet.s highlighted in Quran : Abu Lahab, Waleed ibn Mugeehra, Abu Jahal
Abu Lahab : coward, cheap
Waleed ibn Mugheera : not enemy, reconciliation, compromise
Abu Jahal: most noble of these. Generous, strategist, brave in battle
Dua of Muhammad.s : Umar or Abu Jahal
Early Seerah: Abu Sufiyan, Aqnas ibn Shuraib, Abu Jahal separately sneeking to messenger.s ‘ house listening to message (addicted to listening to Quran)
arrogant/ ego/ leadership
9. أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ
“Did you see the one who dares to forbids”
-- > the first thing that was created was the pen and he said to it ‘write’

9. أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ
“Did you see the one who dares to forbids”
10. عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ
“a slave when he prays”
The one praying is Rasulallah.s and the one forbidding is Abu Jahal.the cursed.
11. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ
“Don’t you see/Didn’t you see(understand) if he had been committed to guidance”
… what an amazing person he would have become
12. أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ
“Or even commanded to Taqwa”
he commanded others to fear Allah.
13. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
“Did you then see if he chose to lie you/against the truth and turn back”
Don’t you see the destruction he will bring upon himself (benefit and harm of things)
14. أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
“Doesn’t he know that Allah sees”
Allah is watching at him
For the one who is engrossed in sins- Allah is watching
-- > knowledge is a means of humility
Abu Jahal- Arabas used to call him Abul Hakam: Father of knowledge
=========warnings against those who reject knowledge========
15. كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ
“NO. If he doesn’t stop himself
If he dares to continue this behaviour all in any capacity
We will certainly grab (him) and drag him by the forelock(forehead) “
بِالنَّاصِيَةِ : hair right in front of the head
-- > usually an animal is dragged from the front when the master is angry at the animal
place of dignity/place of knowledge
لَنَسْفَعًا: safa’a: drag something and pull it so hard, it starts coming out of its roots.
-- > if he drags to continue, then certainly there will be very sharp consequences
16. نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
“forehead that is lying and forehead that commits huge mistake”
-- > he refused to humble himself
خَاطِئَةٍ : mistake whose consequences one does not know
17. فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ
“Then let him call his gang”
18. سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ
“Then we will very soon call (plural of ) cop-cops/guards ”
prison guards/entire military
19. كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩
“No. no. not at all. No big deal
don’t worry about him. Don’t even pay attention to him. Don’t follow him.
and you make sajdah and come near/come close(to Allah)”
“a slave when he prays”
The one praying is Rasulallah.s and the one forbidding is Abu Jahal.the cursed.
11. أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ
